English Holiday Cruises

Edward Elgar cruising under Holt Bridge on the River Severn

Your Comfort and Safety are our Top Priorities

The family philosophy at English Holiday Cruises is to train the boat crews properly, respect their abilities, treat them fairly and ensure they look after you well. This requires a great deal of hard work on their part but that will all help you to relax. Our top priorities are your comfort and safety during your river holiday cruise with us aboard the Edward Elgar Riverboat Hotel.

The Captains and Crew

The Captains at English Holiday Cruises are responsible for their entire ship, passengers and crew. They are specially trained and examined by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency for this purpose. The First Mate makes sure that our equipment is regularly checked and serviced, whilst also working the ropes, moorings - and behind the bar. The Chef is properly qualified in food hygiene and will also have a good deal of experience in preparing food to our exacting standards. Last but not least our steward/ess manages the foodservice and cleaning. The Captain and crews at English Holiday Cruises are lovely people and you will enjoy getting to know them well during your river holiday cruise with us.

‘A truly wonderful holiday, made so by the outstanding crew who were responsive to our every need, before we even knew we had them! We would like to take them home in our suitcase!’ – Mr & Mrs Atwater, Horsham

Passenger Service

The Captain and crew of the Edward Elgar Riverboat Hotel will provide attentive service during your holiday. They share a heavy burden of work but they all get involved in some aspect of passenger service, be it carrying bags, serving meals, serving at the bar, cleaning the cabins or running the games on deck . In addition, they:

• Carry your baggage to and from your cabins and direct you to the nearby car park
• Tell you all about the sights along the way and ‘shepherd’ you onto our guided tours
• Supply FREE newspapers where possible and information leaflets for the local sights.
• Help you to celebrate any special occasion on board – provided you advise us in advance.

‘Could not be bettered in any department – we were so well looked after’ – J. Cox & p. Savage, York

Safety On Board

To ensure your safety, we adopt a comprehensive Health & Safety Policy including:

• Regular dry-docking and certification of passenger safety by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency
• Compliance with relevant ‘Marine Safety Notices’.
• Regular drills with our Search and Rescue Plans.
• Frequent inspections of our safety equipment and appliances by suitably qualified experts
• Formal inspections of our kitchens by the local Environmental Health Department.

‘From the work the Captain did I think he should be made an Admiral not just a Captain’ - Mr & Mrs S of Leeds

At least one of our crew will have appropriate certification in First Aid, Fire Fighting and Water Survival. At the beginning of your holiday cruise we will explain to you our key safety guidelines. All of this, again, is designed to help you relax during your holiday with us. If you have any questions about our facilities on board or our safety procedures, go to boarding and safety information.

‘The three best things were the crew….the crew….and the crew’
